I’ve known Carrie since about 1939. Her family was like a second family to me. Used to spend hours riding with her from the time she could boost me up on the back of old Coke till she was teaching me to jump on a former steeplechase horse she had been given. If it hadn’t been for her my love of horses wouldn’t have been passed on to my daughter and then to my granddaughter who owned and trained the NJ Children’s Hunter Champion for 3 years in a row. After I married and left Geneseo I kept in close touch with her and she insisted on knowing on how my little riders were doing. I’d send her pictures of them and she’d send me pictures of the opening day of the Geneseo Valley Hunt. I can remember the days when she worked at the Red & White and later for Ray & Cookie Sherman at the Livingston Republican. My memories of her were special, but always intertwined with those of her mom, Vi and dad, Rinky, who had been in WWI with my dad and later one of the staff at the old Geneseo Hotel. Thank you, Carrie, for being an important part of my growing-up years and teaching me so much. I’ll never forget you.... Carolyn Jamieson Larned
