Obituary of Gwendolyn J. George

Gwendolyn Jean Burdick George, age 81, of Alexander, died Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Wilma Burdick, sister, Noreen Burdick, mother and father in law, Harlan and Helen George, brother in law, David George.

She is survived by her loving husband, Harlan, Children, Eric (Kathy) George of Byron, Kristie (Carl) Cuer of Darien Center, Lynne George of Alexander, grandchildren, Carla Cuer of Darien Center, Andrew Cuer of Street, MD, Jessica (Jack) Keaton of Silver Springs, Sara (Chris) Beckwith of Rochester, Katelyn (Nick) Quilliam of Leroy, Nate Beglinger of Alexander, Emily (Charles) Kwasniewski of Batavia, great grandchildren, Austin, Seth and Madison Quilliam and baby Beckwith due in October, sister, Juanita (Eugene) Richenberg of Eustis, FL, brother, Wilfred (Shirley) Burdick of Warsaw, sister in law, Gail (Robert) Houghtaling of Walworth, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gwendolyn was born June 12, 1938 in Piffard, NY the daughter Wilfred R. and Wilma J. Flint Burdick. She was a graduate of York Central School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in teaching from SUNY Geneseo on June 12, 1960. Gwen and Harlan were married August 13, 1960 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Geneseo. Gwen was a teacher at Alexander Elementary School for 28 years retiring in 1993. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Byron.

Due to COVID-19 there will be no prior calling hours. A Celebration of Gwen's Life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 12 Noon - 4 PM at the Alexander Fire Department Rec Hall, 10708 Alexander Rd. (Route 98), Attica, NY 14011. Private burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Byron, 6293 W Main St., Byron, NY 14422 or the Crossroads House, 11 Liberty St., Batavia, NY 14020.
