Dear Harlan, Eric, Kristie and Lynne,
In the school year 1980-81 I began my 26 years of teaching at ACS, meeting Gwen and Harlan as parents to Eric who was then president of the AFS Club. Since Gwen was born in Piffard in the York Central District where I had been teaching, we soon had a connection with all the Burdick and Flint relatives of hers I knew. I so appreciated all the support both Gwen and Harlan gave to me as a new teacher colleague to Gwen and as chaperones for many of our AFS fundraiser activities - the square dances were the most fun. As parents, they supported the activities of all their children, including those parent-teacher conference days.
I will miss my conversations with Gwen through FB. She was such a dear, sweet woman. My deepest condolences to all of you and your extended families. Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon them. Rest among the angels, Gwen.

My husband and I were in Mrs. George's class - and from doing the math, I believe it was her very first year teaching at Alexander. We loved her as she taught us to read using Dick and Jane Readers. We have fond memories of her realizing that 6-year old kids have too much energy to just sit at a desk all day, so she would turn on music and we would dance. She was so much fun. When we ended our first grade year with her, we were so happy to learn that she was moving to second grade with us! We had her 2 years in a row.
Many years later, when we were in Jr. High, Mrs. George came into my life again. She became the advisor to the cheerleaders - and I was a cheerleader. I was extremely honored when Mrs. George asked me to come to her home to babysit her very young children.
She was a great lady, and I have wonderful memories of her.

Aunt Goose, I love you so much. Thank you for being one of the most amazing people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. You were always so kind and loving when I would visit each weekend. I will miss you. Here is one of my favorite photos, of you, Dad and Aunt Nita.

I am very sorry to hear about Gwen's death. She was my 5th grade teacher and I have always enjoyed seeing her and talking with her since then at various events. I'm not sure but she may have been still teaching at Alexander when I began working there. I enjoyed her pleasant personality and especially her laugh. My sincere sympathy to all of you and I certainly hope that I can be in attendance when you have the memorial service for her. I would love to see all of you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Gwen and I met at SUNY Geneseo years ago. She and my husband Joe taught at Alexander. We always sent Christmas cards and caught up on the family news. We also met at college reunions. We enjoyed our years of teaching. May her faith comfort the family. Peace and Prayers, Lucille and Joe Kane

We were all saddened by Gwen' illness and subsequent death. We spent many happy times together especially when we had birthday gatherings and went out to lunch. She was able to attend my wedding in Long Island back in 1954 along with some of her cousins. I was really pleased that she and others from Piffard could make it\ and that they all seemed to have a good time. She was a devoted daughter and sister and later, a devoted wife to Harley and a loving mother to their three children/ I'm sure she was a super grandma as well. She was kind, considerate, and we all loved her dearly. May she find peace and enjoy reuniting with her mom & dad, and Noreen. GOD B LESS HER AND HER FAMILY.
