Obituary of Sadie B. Chamberlin

Sadie Boyd Chamberlin of Geneseo passed away on May 10, 2020, at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was 89 years old. Born on November 13, 1930 she was the daughter of William McIlrath and Margaret G. Boyd, and grew up in Buffalo. NY. Seated alphabetically in grade school, she sat in front of Ray Chamberlin, who she would marry in 1953, and would be her husband of sixty- six years. Surviving her along with her husband are their three children, Ray (Lisa) Chamberlin of Geneseo, Chris (Anne) Chamberlin of Lynchburg, VA, and Sharon (Dennis) McDermott of Colts Neck, NJ. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren- Meredith, Sydney, Mary Boyd, Raymond and John Chamberlin, and William, Dennis and Catherine McDermott. Also surviving her are two great grandchildren, Lucas and Vera. She graduated from East High School in Buffalo in 1949, and then received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from SUNY at Geneseo, majoring in education. She was an elementary school teacher for many years, mainly in the Keshequa School District. She understood the importance of an education and took great pride in knowing that her children and their children were all college graduates, or soon to be. She also enjoyed gardening and creating special desserts for her family, and among her specialties were crème fresh and a minimum of three different pies at Thanksgiving, usually pumpkin, berry and pecan. She was a force of nature and will be missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
