Obituary of Alfred J. Sciarrino

Alfred J. Sciarrino 71, died peacefully on January 19, 2018 after a long illness. Born in Ithaca, New York, Al graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, GA. After high school he attended and graduated from the US Army Signal Corp. Officer Candidate School. He served as a Tactical Communications Officer in the 8th Army/United Nations Command; Seoul, Korea and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.

After serving in the military, Al completed his advanced education receiving degrees from SUNY Geneseo (BA in English), Yale University and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale (MA in religion) where he was a Jarvis Alumni Fellow and a Timothy Dwight Fellow, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison (LLM in Law).

Al was an attorney and Professor of Law. Early in his law career, he served as Assistant NY State Attorney General, Livingston County Attorney, Assistant District Attorney, Sullivan County and National Corporation Attorney for the Korean War Veteran's Association. He also practiced law in Geneseo where he too was an Associate Professor of Law at the State University of New York at Geneseo.

Prior to settling in Geneseo, Al had a distinguished teaching career. He taught at Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL, Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT and Byron-Bergen Central School.

Al was a published author of three books, The Law and Rock n Roll, Officer Candidate School and Vincent Black Lightning 1952. He also authored several Law Review articles.

Al is survived by his daughters Bronwyn Sciarrino of New York City, Sydney Sciarrino of Colorado, Devyn Sciarrino of Rochester, stepson Reece Hubberman of Los Angeles and two grandchildren.

A celebration of Al's life will take place on February 25, 2018 at The Big Tree Inn, 46 Main St. in Geneseo from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A benefit for the Parkinson's Foundation will be held at that time.
