Obituary of Doris E. "Betty" Matera

Doris E. "Betty" Matera, age 94, of Morgan Estates in Geneseo, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at her residence. She was formerly of Syracuse, NY. Betty was predeceased by her husband Raymond J. Matera in 1997 as well as 2 sisters, Louise Spinks and Ellen Maierhofer. She is survived by her children, Linda (Pat) Podsaid and Michael Coyne, both of Florida, Mary Ellen (Dean) O'Keefe of Geneseo, 6 grandchildren, Debbie (Jonathan) Miller, Brenda (Neil) Taylor, Kimberly (Robert) Sanchez, Steven and Patrick Coyne, Shannon (Kirk) Pero,11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Betty was born February 12, 1922 in Elbridge, NY the daughter of Edward and Margaret Smiley MacGowan. She was employed for many years as a sportswear purchaser at Flah's Clothing Store in Syracuse and then at the Casual Corner Clothing Store, also located in Syracuse. Betty was an avid reader and gardener. No prior calling hours. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church, 4 Avon Rd. in Geneseo with Father Edward Dillon officiating. Private Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Livingston County Hospice, 2 Murray Hill Dr., Mt. Morris, NY, 14510.
