Unfortunately we only met and were with Al once, but were both struck by a couple of things. One how different he was from our good friend and Al's brother Bob both in appearance and demeanor. Not to say Bob was demeanor, but we were also struck with how nice, humble and smart Al was. You really felt like after talking with him for a few minutes you know him for a long time. I know his family misses him very much. We wish, like them, we had more time with this gentle-man.

My condolences to the family and many friends of Mr. Dietrich. May "the God of all comfort" provide the strength needed now and in the days ahead. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4)
By meditating on God's promises found in the Bible, you can find real hope and the strength to keep going. (John 5:28,29; 1 Thessalonians 4:13)

to the Dietrich family at this time of great loss, we cannot imagine what you are going through at this time, Lynn has always been a beacon of happiness and hope for us, some one we can always approach, so if we can help in anyway at this time we would be happy to, our thoughts and prayers and with you at this moment.
we never had the oppurtinity to meet Mr, Alfred Dietrich, but if he had the same happy outgoing personality and warm soul as Lynn Dietrich then i am sure it would have been an honor and pleasure to know him, as i sure alot of people did.
we have lit a candle for your family this day, and you and your family will be in our thoughts.
we have added a little prayer from our family to your.
Great Goddess
Be with them in this time of sorrow
Ease the pain of their hearts
And soothe their battered spirits
Bless their nights with restful sleep
So they might cope with the long days ahead
Enfold them in your compassionate arms
As they learn to live with the loss
Help them to move forward with life
And let the pain grow less as time passes
Bless them with your love
And watch over them
And the one they have lost
Namaste to the Dietrich Family.

The Dietrich and MacVittie families were intertwined in the 1960s and '70s. I recall just barely learn to water ski with Bob and Al on Conesus Lake. More recently, running into Al at the Lakeville hardware store and chatting. Al invited me to give a shout and visit him and Lyn at the lake. I so regret not making that call. Al was a very bright light and will be missed so much by so many.

I love Al. What a good man, good husband, and father. I never saw Al and didn't smile (call me out on grammar but that's how it felt). I am personally greaving and will miss his confident support of conservative thinking. Al will remain in my daily mind. Loosing him cannot erase his dedication to thoughtful and careful attention to the public trust and much more important, his love for Lynn and Emily. What a loss, what an example. I miss this man!

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I will remember Al's gentle manner and sincerity. He always made you feel important when he spoke to you and the conversation mattered to him. When I was going through a rough time and was having a moment in my parked car, he stopped and gently tapped on the window to make sure I was ok. This kindness still brings tears to my ears. The world has lost a treasure.

The news of Al's passing came as a shock and then the sadness followed yesterday. In my years at Livonia, I always appreciated the dignified manner that Al had with regard to the people he worked with. In the community, whenever I ran into Al, he always made the time to stop and talk and "catch up". Our Livonia community will truly miss his kind manner and respectful demeanor. May you be blessed with handfuls of fond memories! Our family prays for your family- Stef P. and family

I have lost a true friend. Since the early 1960's I have known Al and his brother, Bob. Although Bob and I experienced Geneseo together through our High School and college years; it was not until my graduation from college in 1970 that I got to know Al better. We spent many hours on the lake and just talking before I entered the Army. He helped to allay any fears for that future. I will always remember his kindness to me, my parents and 2 sisters. Al was a silent man, but a man who had firm convictions about the rights and wrongs in the world.
I am happy that my wife, Gill, got to know this wonderful individual in the last 6 years. Both Al and Lynn have been special to us and for that we are forever grateful. Whenever I spot a sailboat on the water or a lone fisherman casting for trout; I will always think of Al. He was a friend to the fullest ...

I am so VERY shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of this kind, gentle man. He looked out for me when I was new to the district, a young mom and president of the PTA. Years later he would be instrumental in my working full time for the district, in the business office with him no less, and then to agree to be a reference for me when I was job searching the last 2 years. He was always willing to help me. After he "retired" and I would see him I was always greeted with a big hug and smile and I literally always think of him when I see a Volvo station wagon. My condolences to Lynn and Emily. Know he made an impact on one grateful woman.

Growing up, Al was my mentor, and someone who gave far more than he ever took. He was always a tough act to follow because I never knew him to fail, and he made success look easy. He always did the right thing. He served in the US Navy as an officer with distinction, including a tour of duty in Viet Nam with the river patrol boats. To me, he was my hero as someone I always looked up to with respect and admiration because of the way he lived his life. Issues of integrity, accountability, responsibility, and most of all family, were the most important aspects in his life. He set a standard for others to follow.
Geneseo and Conesus Lake were nearly his life long residence, and a community that he cherished. His family has lost their loving husband and father, and next to my wife, Patsy and our family, I have lost my best friend and brother. He and I would talk several times a week, and I am filled with a treasury of memories that will keep him alive in my mind and heart forever.
