Obituary of Thomas A. Roffe
Thomas A. Roffe, age 60, of Main St in Leicester, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.
He is survived by his sister, Karen Roffe of Leicester, 2 aunts, Letitia Welch of Rochester and Marva Roffe of Cohocton, many cousins and friends.
Tom was born July 25, 1956 in Binghamton, NY the son of the late Wilfred A. and the late Mary B. Love Roffe. He was a graduate of the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tom owned and operated Warbirds and Warriors Books in Leicester. History was Tom's passion. He served as the Historian for both the Town and Village of Leicester and was a Life Member of the Livingston County Historical Society. Tom researched history and wrote numerous magazine articles. He co-authored Looking Backwards. Tom was a well-known speaker at many area Historical Societies, most notably the Mt. Morris Dam Winter Discovery Series. He was awarded a Hackman Grant by the State of New York to research Sonyea's Craig Colony at the State Archives in Albany. Among Tom's proudest accomplishments were getting the Sparta First Presbyterian Church in Groveland Station as well as many Leicester properties status on the State Historic Register as well as the Boyd and Parker Park registered as a National Historic Site for its importance in our nation's history.
No prior calling hours. Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2 PM in Leicester Cemetery with Rev. Laurel Nelson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cuylerville Ambulance Fund, PO Box 247, Leicester, NY 14481or the Leicester Fire Department, 126 Main St., Leicester, NY 14481.
