Roman J. Hufnagel, known as Brother Henry at the Abbey of the Genesee Monastery in Piffard, NY died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris, NY. Brother Henry was 86. He is survived by his fellow Trappist Monks with whom he resided at the Abbey of the Genesee for 56 years, 1 brother, John (Mary Rose) Hufnagel of Lockport, 4 sisters, Florence Hufnagel of Lockport, Elizabeth (Tom) Ellerbusch of AZ, Mary Ann Simmons of AZ, Rose Mary (Jerry) Stevenson of RI, many nieces and nephews. He was born April 18, 1925 in Lockport, NY the son of John and Catherine Wuebben Hufnagel. Brother Henry was a US Army Veteran having served in the Phillipines during World War II. Prior to becoming a Trappist Monk, he worked at Bell Aircraft Company in Niagara Falls, NY. No prior calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 5, 2011 at 9:45 AM at the Abbey of the Genesee, 3250 River Rd., Piffard, NY. Burial will be in the Abbey of the Genesee Cemetery.
