I am so sad to see Shirley has passed on. I had Mrs. McNally my freshman year for college writing and my sophomore year for humanities at SUNY Geneseo. I learned so much from her my freshman year. Through her class, I learned how to greatly improve my writing and how a pen and paper can bring tears of joy and also heal so much hurt and pain. During my sophomore year, she was like a mother to me at times, not just a teacher. So caring and understanding, teaching to her was more than just teaching the content. It was being available to listen and be a shoulder to cry on if needed. She never made judgments and always smiled. Even in the years after I graduated, I would see her around town once in awhile and she always remembered me. What a wonderful person who shined her light wherever she went. I'm sure she touched so many students, friends, teachers, and family forever. I will miss you. Thank you for everything you did for me, not only teaching me content, but more importantly teaching me about life.

My sincere condolences to Mrs. McNally's family and friends. I apologize that I am sending my message so late--I only just found out about Mrs. McNally's passing. Mrs. McNally made a lasting, positive imprint on my life. She was my junior English teacher at Livonia High. She challenged each student to push him- or hersef to learn more, to dig deeper. She managed to always find the energy to be supportive and kind. She praised us warmly when we excelled. We tried hard to avoid falling below her expectations, because she was also sincere in sharing her disappointment. She lives on in the many students whom she encouraged to share her passion for language and learning.

Heartbreaking to know you are gone. When I was transplanted to Gouverneur f/Manhattan at age nine feeling so alone I was introduced to my new cousin. Shirl you wrapped me into your circle of girlfriends so generously. Who knew we would all remain friends for a lifetime. Can't imagine childhood and adolescence w/o you. I was later to be your maid of honor when you met and married the love of your life Jim McNally. Although separated in our adult life I am so happy that we have reconnected for the past decade annually at Sylvia Lake for our "girl scout" reunions with many of the same childhood friends from long ago. I treasure the privelege of celebrating your remission last March. We had so much fun- Lucy and Ethel at the CIA cooking duckling and drinking good scotch together. You were such a special person so smart and so funny so full of love. My deepest sympathy to Jim Laura and Andrew and your very treasured grandchildren. I can only imagine the depth of their loss. So thankful for MaryAnn and Susan for providing care and devotion to the end. Pat Mike Rodney and their families my deepest sympathy to all of you. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I will miss you forever Shirley. It has been such a privelege to know you.

I am so sorry for the loss, here on earth, of such a wonderful Mom and loving wife. I and Joanie always so enjoyed her company at the family gatherings. Shirley will be missed by many. Our time here is short but the memories left by Shirley are warm and many and will never be forgotten. Until you meet again find comfort in knowing how many loved her.

Being a lifelong friend and a member of the "Girl Scout Group" my heart is so saddened by Shirley's passing.
Shirley was always the kindest girl I ever knew. Always thinking of others before herself.
Our scout get-together in September was so special because we knew what an effort it was for her but it will be a loving memory for years to come.
My thoughts and prayers to you all. She loved each and everyone of you very much.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Evans Knowlton

Shirley was always so warm and gracious to me. Shirley, her sister Pat, and I had a spontaneous (and unexpected) PJ party one summer night at Shirley's home; we three had a fabulous time. So many laughs that night and of course we were sent home the next morning with a bag of homemade cookies! Peace be with you and yours, Shirley.
