Obituary of Shelby M. Spezzano

Shelby M. Spezzano, age 80, of Rochester, formerly of Geneseo, passed away peacefully July 23, 2024, in Tampa, Florida. She was born on September 30, 1943 in Buffalo, NY to Walter and Pauline (Sipson) Walter. In May of 1963, Shelby married Gerald Spezzano in Geneseo, just after her graduation from SUNY Geneseo.

Shelby was a lifelong and passionate educator, holding numerous teaching positions throughout her almost 40-year career. Shelby was a strong and extremely independent woman which she maintained until her passing. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, incredible strength of spirit, and an unending generosity towards her family and friends.

Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry and is survived by her sons, Chris Spezzano (Kelly) of Tampa, FL and Marc Spezzano (Tina) of Lantana, TX, grandchildren, Katherine and Stephen, brother, Gary Walter, sisters, Kristy Lavis and Marcy Roeder and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a Remembrance Gathering for Shelby at The Avon Inn, 55 East Main Street, Avon, NY 14414 on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 12 noon until 3:00pm. The family will have a private funeral per Shelby's wishes. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.
