When not teaching in the summer Myrt drove home to her parents' farm, helping her mother with canning and freezing her large garden. You could find her driving the tractor when putting up the hay in the barn.

In 1952 Myrt accepted a Professor's position at SUNY Geneseo. She became a well-known figure in the Geneseo Community and on the SUNY Geneseo Campus. Myrt was a Distinguished Service Professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Emerita at SUNY Geneseo for over 30 years. She was an avid golfer and loved to fish. Her cocker spaniel dogs were her babies and they were spoiled. Myrt was a great cook and maintained a large garden for several years. She didn't know the meaning of being retired as she kept busy.

Myrt was very close to God and served the Geneseo United Methodist church in many roles, such as a youth leader and took groups to local and national gatherings.
