Obituary of Bernard E. Blood

Bernard E. Blood, age 92, of Geneseo formerly of Lincoln, MA, died Monday, February 20, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY. He was predeceased by his brother, Jim Blood.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Barnes Blood, children, Melanie (Jonathan Kruger) Blood of Geneseo, Jason Blood of Palm Beach, FL, grandchildren, Miranda Blood and Alexander Kruger, brother, David (Charlotte) Blood of CA, sister, Sharon Rainey of WA, several nephews and nieces including, Jennifer (César) Garcia of PA and Louisa (Jeff Crile) Barnes of VA. He enjoyed showing his family how much he loved us through many thoughtful actions, which came more naturally to him than words.

Bernie was born September 22, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Edward Samuel and Nelda Maier Blood. He was a graduate of Billings High School in Montana. After starting at Montana State College at Billings, Bernie earned his Bachelor's and his Master's Degrees in Engineering from MIT in Cambridge, MA. He worked on aerospace, railway, automobile, and department of defense projects in his long career at the Department of Transportation. He was proud to have used his intellectual gifts to improve the world around him. He retired from the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, MA. Bernie was beloved by his family and colleagues for his integrity, work ethic, and sense of humor. Throughout his life he viewed the world pragmatically, advocated for those less privileged, and continued to learn and grow in wisdom throughout his retirement years.

No prior calling hours. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 23 Main St. in Geneseo with Rev. Michael Laver officiating (CLICK HERE FOR VIRTUAL SERVICE). A spring interment will be held in Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln, MA.
