Obituary of Gail E. Dorr

Went in peace on August 14, 2019. Survived by sons, Adam, Joseph, Daniel and Matthew (Amber), grandchildren, Andrew, Connor, Tyler, Sarah, Maggie, Brendan, Noelani, Malia, Caleb and Emerson and honorary grandson, August, nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. Predeceased by parents, Joseph and Alice Eule, sister, Edna Lauterbach and brother, Robert Eule.

Born in Queens and raised in Staten Island, she graduated from SUNY Oswego and taught at Jordan-Elbridge Central School and substituted at Geneseo Central School. She taught art classes at the Leisure Learning School at SUNY Geneseo. For many years Gail operated a folk art studio from her home and a wall papering business.

Previously employed as a fund raiser working on capital campaigns for the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester's Child, WXXI, and School of the Holy Childhood.

Gail was a member and newsletter chairwoman of the Genesee Valley Hunt Board of Directors, Served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Geneseo Garden Club. Was an active volunteer at the Holcomb Campus School and chaired the "Save The School" effort on its behalf. As a member of APOG, she built the fund raising doll house replica of the college presidents' home on Main Street and helped with fundraisers for the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts and the Livingston County Museum. She was a den mother for Boy Scout Troop 70 and named AAUW Woman of the year 1979 for her volunteer work in the community. Gail served 14 years on the Village Zoning Board of Appeals and recently volunteered at the Geneseo/ Groveland Food Pantry.

Gail loved Geneseo as a great place to live and raise her family among wonderful caring people.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 2-6 PM at the family residence, 27 South St. in Geneseo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Geneseo Food Pantry, 31 Center St., Geneseo, NY 14454.
