My love to all the Roodenburgs!! Bill was one of a kind!! Living at the lake has not been the same since he moved. Bill was the best neighbor and friend a person could ask for! So many great memories of our time with him. I know there will be some great story telling and a ton of laughs tomorrow and Friday when all his loved ones gather to celebrate his life -- well lived!!! Bill and Lenny will never ever be forgotten, and always in our hearts.

Bill was my cousin, and although I haven't seen him for a number of years, I remember he had a great sense of humor. At our last family reunion he helped my children place a pig's head in my sister's car. She didn't find it until they returned to New Jersey.
The Lord will welcome Bill and I'm sure he will make Him laugh.

Bill will always be part of my memories growing up at Carl's Marine. I remember his (sometimes) patience with 3 little girls who liked to get into everything, his slightly wicked smile, and his sense of humor. And when the mood struck, he seemed to delight in giving everyone around a hard time, including mom and dad (Carl and Ethel). After Carl's Marine, Bill and Lenny stayed good friends with mom -- she even kept a picture of the 3 of them together on a table in her living room until she passed away. And, on our last visit to see him at Morgan Estates, his smile and sense of humor were ever present. Rest in peace Bill, and please be on your best behavior up there.

Jane and Billy-As you already know I really loved your parents. They were fun and witty and always a pleasure to see. When I heard that Bill had passed away I was not sad as much as nostalgic and glad for all the many years that I had the pleasure of knowing him and Lenny. I'm sure your family has many wonderful and fun memories to share. They are missed by many. Jeff

Jane and Billy and families,
My sincere condolences. Bill was a great guy. Meghan and I were so lucky to have Lenny and Bill as neighbors. Everyday was an unofficial lesson on what it means to be kind, caring, generous, and neighborly. We were so lucky to have Bill, Lenny, and the extended Roodenburg family in our lives. I want to share some of my favorite memories and/or stories of Bill and Lenny.
-The sound of the splash as Bill took his early morning swims in the lake.
-Bill’s aversion to clothing, thus the nickname “Nude-n-burgs”
-Lenny’s piano and songs in preschool.
-Bill using a slingshot to launch M80’s over the lake on July 4th.
-Bill hiring me to stack firewood in the fall for 3.00 and hour.
-Lenny’s big bright smile.
-Lenny reading a book in the chair at the end of the dock.
-The sound of the Boston Whaler being lifted out of the lake.
-Bill’s banana hammock and my mom refusing to go visit until he changed into “normal” clothes.
-Fishing off the dock in the spring, because Bill was one of the first to put his dock in the water.
-Playing with Duffy, Danny, and Johnny in the water and on the shore.
-Lenny and Bill having us over for dinner on the deck in the summer.
My heart goes out to you all. I wish I could be there with you to celebrate his accomplished life. He was a great man who lived an amazing life.
With Love,
Chris Woods

Met Bill way back in about1963ish when he worked for Carl Rost at the marina. Bill was one of the motor mechanics if I remember. Great guy , serious one moment, then funny the next. . Lost track of course because I went off to college and grew up, ha. Ran into him again many years later at the bus garage. Never forgot him and it was great to redo. He had to think a while because of so little and long ago. He was still the great guy I knew so long ago.
I can only imagine what a great part of your lives he was just by the little I knew him.
My sincere sympathy to his family. Enjoy the memories.
Sincerely, Mike Martina, Dansville

Bill was my bus driver for many years. He was one of a kind....he showed a lot of tenderness toward kids but kept "law and order" with wit and humor. I later crossed paths with Bill at Morgan Estates and he was the same Bill; feisty, spunky, fun-loving. He is a true icon.
My brothers, James and Jerry Harris, and myself, wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Roodenburg family. Bill touched a lot of lives and will be fondly remembered by all.

What Bil Roodenburg meant to me, he was the first person I spoke to after my father died, he wanted to make sure my sister, brother and I were okay, asking what he could do for us. Always thoughtful and kind. When we were young he would show up at christmas, with a little "green" not just for my sister( officially his God daughter) but for my brother and myself. He would say " i forgot which one is my godchild because I love you all. " When we were at JohnJohn Curry's funeral, we held each other up,and we were doing okay until Hutch gave us the nod, and we nodded back and proceeded to lose it. He always took the time to make sure we were well and safe, his kindness never ceased, and for that I will always hold him dear to my heart, I am so happy that he was able to meet my daughter when she was a baby. God be with you Uncle Bill, you were a man among men. Jacqueline M. Saunders-Maytan

Well lucky me he knew my parents so guess who got called?? My Mom came and delivered all my friends to their homes and I got my punishment but Bill and I laughed over that for many years!

When I was a teenager in the 60's Mr. Roodenburg seemed to be everywhere I was. At high school athletic events, at any of the shops on main street, at the roller skating rink on Conesus Lake and yes ... at the high school. He was the parent watching over all of us to make sure we kept to the straight and narrow. To the community he was there for every tragedy. From fires, to burglaries and to the occasional teenage
mishaps . He was the " Geneseo Watchdog ". He was sometimes scary and intimidating to those of us growing up in town. And yet he carried a kind and gentle heart for every resident in town. He was doing his job as policeman/chief for all of us.
Bill Roodenburg will forever be remembered in Geneseo. We should all be thankful that Geneseo had Bill around ... all the time.

To Bill's family all of Geneseo shares in your sorrow. Bill was such an integral part of my teenage years working at Carl Rost Marine Shop where Bill was a mechanic. There were very few serious moments being around him because you never knew what was coming next. For all of us who worked with him you only wished you kept a diary of his sayings or witticisms. He never called any of us by our given name. There was one occasion where Jack Baker launched a Chris Craft but forgot to put the drain plug in. Bill rescued the boat just before it sank and Jack had a litany of new nicknames that cannot be printed here. I remember one Friday night at Scondras Dairy Bar where Bill was having coffee, and the police car was out front running to keep it warm. Beetle Bailey, having moved the car, came in and dropped the car keys in front of the counter, and told Bill to go find it. Bill casually stood up and quickly handcuffed Beetle, and told him to go take a leak as he would come back after he found the car. Beetle revised his earlier opinion real fast. I have no doubt that all of us who knew him could write a screen play on his antics. He was the most unique individual. Yet, in his own way, he taught us all something about right from wrong. Bill, thanks for the memories, and I am truly glad to have known you.

Geneseo, Livingston County has lost a great man. From the 1st I met him in wife's class on Holcome school til the summer of 2010 when I moved to Florida. He was a true friend. When no one was around on Feb 28,1984 during a blizzard I broke my cast on my broken leg. He came down the lake road to temp fix the cast and waited for my parents to come home from work. Then the many time we went water and snow skiing. And the day I drop the motor off my neighbor's party boat. wow! To many memories! But now your reunited with your wife forever. Thank you for being a standup man, teacher and roll model...

I love the obituary for being frank and honest yet respectful to a man who loved Geneseo and the people he came in contact with—especially teenagers. I was a teenager when Mr. Roodenburg was Chief of Police. Yes, we were a little scared of him but we also didn’t want to disappoint him by doing something wrong or getting into trouble. He kept us on the right path because that was the right thing to do and the right thing for our community. What a privilege to be guided by this generous soul. We knew he loved us even if he didn’t tell us out loud. He just showed us his love through his heart which was situated right next to his badge. God bless Bill and his family.
