Obituary of Andrew J. Schwan

Andrew J. Schwan, age 86, of York, died Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Shirley June Schwan, December 29, 2017, sisters, Martha Curry, Rose Gartz and Veronica Schwan. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Gerald) Giglio of Retsof, Eric (Janie) Schwan of York, Amy (Steve) Lakin of Fort Smith, AR, Kurt (Cynthia) Schwan of Atlanta, GA, 9 grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Giglio, Jonathan (Melody) Giglio, Andrea (Daniel) McDermott, Billy (Carey) Schwan, Johnston (Courtney) Burdick, Leigh Burdick, Emma Lakin, Kacey and Corey Schwan, great grandchildren, Jake and Layla Giglio, sister, Helen (Jim) Babcock of Dansville, many nieces and nephews. Andrew was born March 22, 1932 in Rochester, NY the son of William and Helen Winhurst Schwan. He was a US Army Korean Conflict Veteran. Andy retired as a Plumber from Lapp Insulators in LeRoy. He served the Town of York as Councilman and Accessor for many years. Andy was a lifelong member of the York Fire Department serving for over 60 years. Andy took pride in everything he did and was always eager to share his knowledge. He was a great Husband, Father and Grandfather. Andy loved his Country, his home and his family. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 11 AM at the York United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lynn Burdick officiating with full Military Honors. Interment will be private in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the York United Presbyterian Church, 2662 Main St. Box 411, York, NY 14592.
