Obituary of Elizabeth Steur

Elizabeth "Betty" Steur, passed away on February 3, 2018. Beloved wife of the late R. Walter Steur, dearest mother of Michael (Beth) Steur, Anne (Ron) Class, Janet (Mark) Hatch and devoted grandmother of Brian (Katie) Steur, Nora (Derek) Gehring and Will Steur, Julianne and Jonathan (Brianna) Class, Jessica and Troy Hatch, great grandmother to Kyle Michael Steur, and step–grandmother to Jeff (Beverly) Class, Chris (Kevin) Stowe and Martin (Cindy) Class. Born October 7, 1927 in Geneseo, NY to Thomas and Lillian Slaight, Betty earned a Bachelor's in Education at the New York State Teachers College in Geneseo and in 1950 went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Speech from The Ohio State University. She worked as a speech therapist for the Cheektowaga Central School District in western NY for many years. She was actively involved in the local community including League of Women Voters, PTA, Scouting and many years of service as a devoted member of Faith United Church of Christ. After losing her larynx to cancer in 2008, she became an active member of The New Voice Club and would speak to various community groups and patients at Roswell. Betty was loved by many neighbors and friends in the western New York community for her kindness, generosity and ever-present smile. A Celebration of Life Service will take place Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Faith United Church of Christ, 1300 Maple Road in Williamsville, NY at 10 am. The family will be receiving visitors from 9:30 to 10 am. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made to Faith United Church of Christ. Following the service, a brief Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm at Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo, NY. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
