Dear Skip; Please accept my sincerest condolences on the recent loss of your stepfather, Bert Falardeau. My sister, Holly Hewitt Harvey, still of Geneseo, so greatly cherish our dad, age 98 and who computes with the best of them, under the guidance of his great-grand children. The men and women of that generation remain so exceptional, no matter where they are. (Note: We graduated from high school together.)

My Uncle sure had an interesting life, from Pearl Harbor to his recent book authorship, oil painting, etc. I have always been proud of Uncle Bert. Now, perhaps my Mom is helping to care for him in Heaven, as she did when they were very young on earth. She certainly loved him very much. All told, one would have to say, “a life well lived”! Rest in Peace, Uncle Bert!

A beacon of bright shining light which has saved many a sailor, is the smile and humor that emulated from Bert.

To his Family & friends,
I met Bert while on board the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69 as my close shipmate Leo and I shared a stateroom together during underway and he had brought Bert along for the underway. He instantly became a shipmate and above all a person I admired! I remember proudly and with honor making him a brass plaque of the ships namesake, at that time, only bestowed to senior officers.
We talked of "sea stories", foreign ports, and his experiences as a true sea warrior on battlewagons during WW ll. I admired his swagger, his confidence, his humor, and above all, his respect for others.
I have kept up with Bert through Leo all these years from 1983 till present. Leo has sent me pictures of Bert and his "I Love Me Wall" noting our infamous picture in the stateroom on the "Mighty Ike" as she was known.
Bert...May you rest in "Fair winds and Following Seas" forever in our hearts! and may the wind be always at your back! You will be sorely missed by all who knew you!
Capt. Robert J. "Pete" Petry, United States Navy, Retired.
