Obituary of Donald Patrick Lackey
Donald Patrick Lackey, age 74, of Westview Crescent in Geneseo, passed away suddenly Sunday, September 11, 2016.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Robert, Daniel, Richard "Bud", Ronald Lackey and Alice Messenger.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy O'Laughlin Lackey, sons, Kevin Patrick (Joanna) Lackey of Boston, MA, Michael (Melissa) Lackey of Amherst, grandchildren, Riley Elizabeth and Ryan Patrick Lackey of Boston, MA, Trevor James and Megan Katherine Lackey of Amherst, sisters, Patricia Corcoran of South Glens Falls, Mavorneen (Brian) Smith of Vernon, CT, brother in law, John (Terry) O'Laughlin of Elmira, NY, many nieces, nephews and 14 godchildren.
Donald was born January 19, 1942 in Elmira, NY the son of Raymond and Jane Cronin Lackey. He was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy, earned his Associates Degree from Corning Community College, his Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Oswego, and his Master's Degree from SUNY Brockport. Don was a US Air Force Vietnam Veteran. He retired as Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at SUNY Geneseo in 2003 after 30 years at the College. Don was a leader in various professional organizations across the state and was a recipient of the SUNY Chancellors Award for Excellence in Professional Service. He remained involved at SUNY Geneseo leading a group of Emeriti that stayed connected to the college Community. Don was an active member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish in Geneseo as well as the Interfaith Center at SUNY Geneseo. He was a longtime Buffalo Bills and Boston Red Sox fan and an avid fan of SUNY Geneseo and Syracuse University athletics. Don enjoyed his retirement traveling with family and friends, his daily coffee group and writing poetry.
Calling hours will be Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. His Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 4 Avon Rd. in Geneseo with Father Edward Dillon officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Geneseo Ambulance Fund, PO Box 428, Geneseo, NY 14454 or St. Luke's Scholarship Fund, 13 North St., Geneseo, NY 14454.
