Obituary of Charles Edwin Coleman

Charles Edwin "Ed" Coleman, of 2583 Craig Road in York, passed away on August 6, 2015 following a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Grace Coleman, his brother Donald, sister, Marjorie, and son Joel. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Nora Wombwell Coleman, sister Dorothy Coleman Stedman, sons Evan Coleman and Wade Coleman, daughters, Sherilyn Coleman-Ferrer and Jeannine (Paul) Coleman Smith, 4 grandchildren, Rafael and Elena Ferrer, Mary and Joel Coleman. Ed was born on November 11, 1928 in Perry, NY. Like his father before him, he was a farmer. After selling the farm in the early 1960s he worked various jobs, eventually ending up at York Central School where he was the Head Custodian until he retired at age 57. Ed greatly enjoyed his retirement years, which he spent doing things he enjoyed in the company of his wife Nora. Ed was a man who took joy in the simple pleasures of lifeā€¦attending family gatherings, music, reading the daily paper, chatting at the local barbershop, long country rides in one of his cherished vehicles, and Nora's good cooking. Until the day he died, he continued to be keenly interested in current events, the daily weather forecast, and the activities of his family. He will be sadly missed. Family, friends, and neighbors are invited to join Nora and family for a gathering to be held on Friday August 14th from 1-3 pm at the York Town Hall, 2668 Main St. in York. Stop by, say hello to Nora, and share a memory over a cup of coffee and one of Ed's favorite pies or cookies. For those unable to attend, Nora would be most appreciative of a card or letter. Mail may be sent to her daughter's address: Sherilyn Coleman- Ferrer, 76 Washington Road, Pittsford, NY 14534.
