Obituary of James R. Kelly

Mr. James R. Kelly passed into the arms of the Lord at his home on May 20, 2013. Born on September 8, 1929 in Waltham, MA, James was the son of James and Marguerite Nickerson Kelly. He was predeceased by his brother William. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Battaglia Kelly, daughter, Karen (Wayne Swede) Rumfola of Perry, son, Richard (Rose) Kelly of Hurley, NY, grandchildren, Kellie Rumfola of Geneseo, Theresa Kelly of Greenbush, NY, Marianne and Kathryn Kelly of Hurley, NY, great granddaughter, Rylee Rumfola of Geneseo, sister, Marlyn (Pat) McDaniel of Dennis, MA, several nieces and nephews. James was employed by the United States Postal Service for 30 years and was awarded the Special Postal Peoples Award in 1973 for his efforts beyond the call of duty in bringing credit to the Postal Service. In his retirement he spent 13 years as a School Bus Driver for the Geneseo Central School District. In 1999 he was voted the Professional Bus Operator of the Year. An avid golfer, James was a 40 year member of the Livingston Country Club in Geneseo, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He served in the United States Air Force including a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War. A 46 year member of Kiwanis, James was voted Kiwanian of the Year in 1972 and again in 1980. He was a founding member of the committee to begin the Seniors Citizen Club of Geneseo. Visitation will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 4-7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 4 Avon Rd. in Geneseo. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Way of Livingston County, P.O. Box 366, Geneseo, NY 14454 or the Pluta Cancer Center, 125 Red Creek Dr., Rochester, NY 14623.
