Obituary of John W. Davis

John W. Davis Jr., 82, of Lattimer Rd. in Groveland, died Friday, May 11, 2012 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Brikner. He is survived by his companion of 52 years with whom he resided, Joan Reeves of Groveland, his brother, James (Adelaide) Davis of Denver, CO, several nieces and nephews. John was born August 24, 1929 in Albany, NY the son of John and Marian Davidson Davis Sr. John attended Oberlin College and graduated with a Degree in Education in 1955. In August of 1955 he began work at Allen Park United Presbyterian Church where he organized and conducted six choirs. He received his Masters' Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Eastern Michigan University in 1965. He than worked as Director of Education at Kirk of the Hills in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Upon his arrival to Geneseo in 1965, Mr. Davis served as Assistant Director of the College Union and Assistant Director of Counseling. He joined the Counseling Center full-time in 1967. John worked at SUNY Geneseo from 1967 until his retirement in 1995. He was Associate Dean and Director of the Counseling Center from 1983-1995. In 2003 the Counseling Center at SUNY Geneseo was named the John W. Davis and Joan A. Reeves Counseling Center. John dedicated his professional life to making a difference for generations of SUNY Geneseo students. No prior calling hours. Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11 AM at Central Presbyterian Church in Geneseo with Pastor Nancy Lowmaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
