Obituary of Carroll Van Whipple

Carroll Van Whipple, 88, of River Rd. in Piffard, died Monday, February 21, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Mr. Whipple was formerly of Jasper, NY and was a longtime resident of New York City. He has resided in Piffard for the last 6 years. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Leah Vitale of Piffard, Carolyn (Ronald) Sutton of Canandaigua, J. Edwin Wade of Troupsburg, Elaine Savey of Hornell, Jeanette (Robert) Fish of Painted Post, Linda (Gerard) Weaver of Piffard with whom he resided, Carroll (Sue) Wade of Jasper, many grand nieces and grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Anna Whipple Wade, and his brother Lyle Alvord Whipple. He was born July 16, 1922 in Jasper, NY the son of Carroll and Leah Hulse Whipple. He graduated from Jasper Central School in 1940 and was then employed at the A & P grocery Store in Corning. He then enlisted in the US Army in 1942 where he served until 1945. He was honorably discharged and awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Whipple then attended Syracuse University before moving to New York City to begin work for RCA Global International. He retired from Global International in August of 1985. No prior calling hours. Graveside Services will be held in Jasper Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
