Uncle Dan lived across the street with Grandma Crawford when I was little. He was quiet and dependable, and very handsome. He would come for coffee after supper and talk with Dad. He read Zane Grey novels every night after work while Grandma fixed supper. I never really appreciated all he went through during the war until I was older. I thought it was very romantic when he got married; he smiled and laughed more then than I had ever seen before.
