Obituary of Annie Mae Plant

Annie Mae Plant, 94, died January 2, 2013 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY. Annie Mae was born on February 18, 1918 in Newton, GA, to Ed and Pearlie Smith Crafton. She had four sisters & two brothers. She grew up in Albany, GA. In 1945 in Jacksonville, FL, she wed James "Jimmy" Plant, who was 10 years her senior and they moved to the Geneseo, NY area, as he was hired to do farm work & horse training. Annie Mae worked for the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, in food services, & as a matron, for several years. She also serviced many Geneseo area families with her expert house-tending skills. Annie Mae's husband, Jimmy, died, sadly, after a brief illness, in 1965. In 1984, she moved in with Dennis & Ann Dawson, and their daughter, Elizabeth ("Betsy") Dawson (Vander Wal), in Geneseo, NY, and resided with them for many years, until her health required that she move to have more care. She became part of the Dawson's immediate family, upon arrival. Annie Mae resided at the Livingston County Nursing Facility in Mt. Morris, NY, for the last years of her life, where she received excellent care. Annie Mae was predeceased by her parents, Pearlie & Ed Crafton, as well as all of her six siblings. She is survived by many nieces & nephews in the Albany, GA area, most notably, her niece, Pearlie Mae Green, who she adored. Annie Mae is also survived by Dennis & Ann Dawson, of Geneseo, as well as, Elizabeth ("Betsy") Dawson Vander Wal, whom she helped to raise, as well as Elizabeth's husband, Nathan Vander Wal, and their children, Ella, Gavin & Sophia, all of Brighton, NY. Memorial Services celebrating Annie Mae's life will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 10 AM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 23 Main St. in Geneseo, NY. Memorials may be made to the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (Activities Fund), 11 Murray Hill Dr., Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
