Brother John B. Schmidt, 93, a Trappist Monk at the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard, NY, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Abbey.He is survived by several relatives including his sister, Mary Virginia VanCamp of Columbus, Ohio, nieces and nephewsHe was born January 8, 1916 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Harry and Anna Hoeffler Schmidt. Brother John will lie in state at the Abbey of the Genesee from 4 PM Monday February 9, 2009 until 4 PM Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at which time his Funeral Mass will begin.
