Obituary of Charles F. Kelley

Charles F. "Chic" Kelley Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY He was predeceased by his parents, Charles F. Kelley Sr., a New York City attorney, and Marie Evans Kelley of Pelham, NY. Also predeceased by his sister, Helen Harper of Texas and his former wife Dawn Michael Kelley of Geneseo.He is survived by his children, David (Mary) Kelley of Geneseo, Nancy (Bob) Kelly of Geneseo, Stephen (Susan) Kelley of Brighton, Chris (Sue) Kelley of Pittsford, James (Nancy) Harper of Geneseo, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, niece, Beth Cherry of Houston, TX, nephew David Knoll of Pasadena, TX.He was born March 9, 1917 in Pelham, NY. Chic served in the South Pacific as a US Army medic during World War II. He and his wife "Mike" Kelley established Hickory Hill Farm in 1952, a successful riding and boarding stable in Geneseo. Upon his retirement at age 62, his daughter Nancy and husband Bob took over the reins at the farm, maintaining and building upon the fine reputation established by her parents in rinning a first class equestrian operation. He was an active member of the Genesee Valley Hunt for many years and a lifetime member of the Professional Horsemen's Association. He was an internationally recognized horse show judge. He was a past active member of St. Mary's Church in Geneseo and a former member of the Geneseo Community Players. No Prior Calling Hours. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, 4 Avon Rd. in Geneseo with Father Edward Dillon officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Genesee Valley Conservancy, P.O. Box 73, Geneseo, NY 14454 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital , 501 St Jude Pl., Memphis TN 38105.
