Obituary of George A. Silfies

George A. "Punch" Silfies, 81, of Genesee St. in Piffard, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Crossroads House in Batavia, NY. He is survived by his wife Mary Grace Rose Silfies, 3 daughters Karen (Frank) Snyder of Caledonia, MI, Jayne (Dennis) Snyder of Batavia, Lori (Tom) Ellison of Greece, NY, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother, many nieces and nephews. He was born January 20, 1927 in Retsof, NY the son of George and Mary Gallo Silfies. Punch was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was retired from AKZO Nobel Salt Mine in Retsof. He was a longtime member of St. Lucy's Church in Retsof, York Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 634 and the Leicester American Legion Post 5003. Visitation will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 1-4 PM and 6-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 12:00 P.M. at St. Lucy's Church in Retsof with Father Edward Zenkel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Crossroads House, PO Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021.
