Obituary of Andrew James Heitzman

GENESEO Andrew J. 'Jim' Heitzman Ed.D., 76, died Feb. 8, 2008. Jim was born November 26, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the only son of the late Andrew J. and Catherine E. Heitzman. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sarah (Sally); his daughter, Sarah Heitzman-Nolte of Geneseo; and his grandson, Andrew J. Nolte of Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of Florida State University and the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir. He was an Associate Professor of Special Education at SUNY Geneseo from 1960 until he retired in 1995. During his 35 years at SUNY Geneseo he wrote, published and presented many papers both nationally and internationally in the areas of behavior management and related subjects. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and served on Faculty Senate. He worked with the Migrant Center at Geneseo and several other migrant reading programs in western New York. He served as advisor to the Prometheus fraternity. He was a member and president of Geneseo Community Players. The family would like to thank all of the staff of the Livingston County Rehabilitation Center and Noyes Memorial Hospital for their care and support. Calling hours will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo, on Friday, February 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 5015 Lakeville Rd., Geneseo on Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the Geneseo Fire Department or the National Wildlife Association.
