I only knew Ken for the 1972-73 academic year, when he was teaching at Behrend College, a branch of Penn State in Erie. I was a new faculty member and he was so kind in inviting me to join a group of faculty friends who had dinner at a favorite Chinese restaurant. He made it easy for me to become part of the Behrend social life.

Dr. Deutsch, though it's been more than 20 years, I still remember many of your lectures and political and philosophical insights as if you spoke them yesterday. As a younger person, you made quite on impression on my thinking and reasoning and helped instill confidence in me to express my thoughts. Every time I have asked my middle school students to think about what makes a leader great, or to reflect on the impact of chaos on personal liberty, or admonished a student for walking in late, I have thought of you. I will continue to do so, and wil now look up with a smile. Rest in peace.

To my dearest Ken, the brother of my heart. I love you and will miss you. Your counsel and profound spirituality always guided me. You will be physically absent at our table this Easter Sunday but will be spiritually present and forever remembered by our family for all the times we gathered there. Amore.
