Obituary of Constance N. Thomas

Constance North Thomas, age 91, of Geneseo, died Thursday, July 31st, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She is survived by her son, Soren (Kathleen Houston) Thomas, five grandchildren; Felicity, Katherine "Kate", Isabelle, James and Elizabeth "Poppy" Thomas, her brother, Douglas (Ellen) North, numerous nieces and nephews. Connie was born in Plattsburg, NY to Henry and Elsie North of Chazy, NY and lived and worked at her parents boarding house in Albany, NY where she met and married the late Dante Thomas Zaccagnini in 1947. Connie and Dante moved to Geneseo in 1966, where Dante was a Professor of English at SUNY Geneseo. Connie was a skilled craftsperson and artist, who taught and mentored many friends and students in the art of weaving, lace, knitting, macram and other textile arts. Connie was especially fond of her job at the Genesee County Museum, where she could be found in the Kieffer Log Cabin, practicing and perfecting her basket making skills and passing them along to future generations. Connie was also an accomplished musician, playing organ and piano for various churches in the 1950's and the 60's, and was especially proud of her grandchildren's musical skills, which she enjoyed immensely. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, at 11:00am at St. Mary's Cemetery on Crossett Road in Geneseo. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wadsworth Library, 24 Center Street, Geneseo, NY 14454.
