Virginia "Ginger" Cann Sanders

After an 18 month-long battle with post COVID-related complications, Virginia "Ginger" Cann Sanders, 82, passed away on October 3, 2024, at The Village Woodlands Waterway Memory Care in The Woodlands, TX. Born on January 27, 1942, in Detroit, MI, and raised in Brighton, NY, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sabrina Sanders, sister, Marilyn Cann Sanders, and her parents, Edward and Florence Cann.

Ginger is survived by her loving and devoted husband/life partner of more than 66 years, Donald R. Sanders Jr. "Sandy" formerly of Geneseo; her daughters, Samara Sanders (Eric) Lindberg and Aimee Sanders (Bruce) Newman; her son, Brian Bragg; and her five grandchildren, Leif, Laila, Cecilia, and Sydney Lindberg, and Nora Bragg. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Laurie Ann Sanders (Jack) Kenney formerly of Geneseo; her nephew, Scott (Ruby) Sanders; her niece, Kristin (Robert) Fiorita and great niece/nephews Carter, Kendel and Cameron Fiorita.

Ginger graduated from Brighton High School in 1959 and went on to attend Syracuse University, where she earned a B.A. in English in 1963. After graduation, she moved to New York City to work at The New Yorker Magazine. On June 20, 1966, she married her high school sweetheart Sandy and together they traveled the world, living overseas in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and India until 1976 when they settled in Brooklyn, NY, to raise their daughters, Samara and Aimee.

During her professional career, Ginger founded her own public relations (PR) company, Sanders Communications. Before launching her business, she worked in various PR roles at Macy's, Abraham & Straus, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Outside of work, Ginger cherished spending time with her family, hosting annual reunions and arranging special experiences for her children and grandchildren to enjoy. She also had a passion for photography, gardening, and jazz music.

The family will hold a memorial service in Geneseo, NY on Friday, May 23, 2025. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. In place of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, PO Box 5021, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5021.
