Obituary of Gary W. Benedict

Gary W Benedict, age 86, of Geneseo, died Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY. He was the last of 8 Benedict siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Sartain Benedict, his children, Jack (Judy) Benedict of Geneseo, Gary (Mary Ann) Benedict of Livonia, Dennis Benedict of Newark, Sandra Ulanowicz of Geneseo, Pamela (Harry) Gardner of Lakeville, grandchildren, Michael and Richard (Becky) Benedict, Nicole and Thomas Benedict, Travis, Brianna (Tony) and Alexis Benedict, Daniel (Korisa), Jason (Kelsey) and Eric Petre, several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Gary enlisted in the US Marines in September of 1955 in Camp Lejeune, NC where he met and married Norma Sartain in November of 1956. They relocated to Geneseo, NY after his service to his country and raised 5 wonderful children there having been married 67 years, Upon relocating to Geneseo, Gary went to work in the family business building residential homes in the Geneseo and Rochester areas. He and his brother Douglas followed construction in Geneseo and began working for Warner Spitz Construction in Rochester where he worked for 20 years before retirement. He then served the Towns of Geneseo, Groveland and Conesus as Code Enforcer and Building Inspector. Gary then worked for 15 years at Walmart in Geneseo. He was an avid golfer and was a member at Livingston Country Club in Geneseo. Gary was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and the SUNY Geneseo Hockey Team. He and his son Gary also coached the Geneseo Youth Hockey Teams at the Pee Wee and Bantam levels. Gary had a great sense of commitment to family and community. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Geneseo for over 60 years.

Friends may call Thursday, March 28 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Funeral Services will be held Friday March 29 at 11 AM at the Central Presbyterian Church, 31 Center St. in Geneseo. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo with Military Honors.
