Obituary of John A. Cichelli

John A. Cichelli, age 86, of Retsof, died Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his son, John Anthony Cichelli, parents, Augustine and Jennie Cichelli, brothers, Louis, Alex and Leo Cichelli, sisters, Rita Valente, Nellie Panozzo, Dolly Alessi and Lucy Lo Verde.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Annie, daughters, Mary Ann (Jon) Hann of Wadsworth, Lisa Cichelli of Rochester, Laurie (James) O'Hara of Geneseo, several grandchildren, 3 great grandsons, sister, Nina LaGeorge of Geneseo, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

John was born December 30, 1937 in Retsof, NY the son of Augustine and Jennie Catarra Cichelli. He graduated from York Central School and served in the US Marine Corps from 1956-59. He and Annie were married on January 21, 1960. John excelled at Baseball and Basketball in High School and was inducted into the York Central School Sports Hall of Fame. John worked for International Salt and retired from AKZO Nobel Salt Mine in Retsof after 40 dedicated years. He was a member of the York VFW Post 634, the York Sportsman's Club and a founding member of the A-On-DO-Wa-Nuh Sportsman Club in Cuylerville.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Lucy's Church in Retsof with Rev. Hoan Dinh officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VFW Post 634, Box 204, York, NY 14592.
