Obituary of Judith P. Carman
Judith P. Carman, age 82, of Groveland, passed away surrounded by her family, Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas "Butch" Carman in 2003.
She is survived by her sons, David (Cindy) Carman of Groveland, Daniel (Jackie) Carman of Geneseo, Donald (Lori) Carman of Wayland, Douglas (Lisa) Carman of Geneseo, grandchildren, James Carman, Tyler (Miranda) Carman, Shane Carman, Steffen (Marisa) Carman, Colin Carman, Kyle (Tiana) Carman, Nichole and Elliot Carman, great grandchildren, Camila, Emmy Jo, Pierce and Rosalie Carman, siblings, Kay (Mike) Keaveney of CO, Nicholas (Magda) Sewell of New York City, Stephen (Debbie) Sewell of OK, many nieces and nephews.
Judy was born June 16, 1941 in Békés,Hungary, the daughter of Nicholas and Katherine Szabo Sewell. After fleeing Hungary when she was 10 years old, her family emigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Groveland, NY. She was a Graduate of Geneseo High School class of 1960. Judy was employed as a CNA at the Livingston County Skilled Nursing Facility in Geneseo. She also worked in the Deli Department at Wegmans in Geneseo for many years. Judy's greatest joy was spending time with her family. No family gathering was complete without her famous apple pie. When her boys were growing up, she enjoyed snowmobiling with them and even had her own off-road motorcycle. She was known to cut a rug when the occasion arose. Judy crocheted dozens of afghans which she loved to give to friends and family. She was also an avid reader and was never without a book.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Her Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11 AM at the Groveland Federated Parish with Dorothy Hotchkiss officiating. Private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Groveland.
