Obituary of Debra L. Iler
Debra L. Iler, 69, of Avon Road in Geneseo, died peacefully Wednesday December 20, 2023 at Highland Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerome D. Bruckel in 1995.
Debra is survived by her children, William (Christina) Bruckel of Somerville NJ, Madelyn Bruckel of Raleigh, NC, Anna (Jordan) Lloyd of Norfolk, VA, granddaughters, Sophie (3) and Harper (6 mos.) Lloyd. She is also survived by sisters, Sandra (David) Israel of Lima, Brenda (Karl) Sawicki of Caledonia, brothers, William A. (Iris) Iler of Southport, NC, Phillip (Tracy) Iler of Fowlerville, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Debra was born April 5, 1954 in Rochester, NY the 2nd daughter of William C. and Eleanor P. Iler of Avon. She was an employee with Special Tees in Geneseo. Debra was deeply committed to the growth and development of her three children following the tragic death of her beloved husband "Jerry" in the fall of 1995. Her devotion to them only strengthened following her 2004 diagnosis of stage four cancer. She was a nineteen year cancer survivor in remission before succumbing to a series of strokes late this year.
Debra was a 1973 graduate of Avon Central High School and earned a business degree from Genesee Community College. She had a burgeoning career in the mortgage banking field beginning with Citibank and continuing at Goldome until 2004 when she received her cancer diagnosis. Her focus then shifted to fighting her cancer and ensuring a successful future for her immediate and extended families. Debra was devoted to her children, her community, the arts, education, the Bills and enjoyed vacationing at NC beaches. She loved the scenic Genesee Valley and was a long term resident of Geneseo.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 23 Main St. in Geneseo with Mary Mroczka officiating. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo where she will be laid to rest near her beloved "Jerry".
