Mary A Battaglia, age 86, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris, NY. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rosalie, Antoinette, Sara Battaglia and her twin Josephine Battaglia, brothers Carmine and Samuel Battaglia.

She is survived by her nieces, Barbara Battaglia of Geneseo, Carol (James) Schultz of Penfield, Regina (Richard) Reeves, Mary (Joseph) Estes and nephew, Michael Conti all of AL, several great nephews, great niece, Ashton Battaglia of Geneseo and loving cousins, Mary and Jenn Mielke.

Mary was born November 22, 1936 in Geneseo, NY the daughter of Frank and Antoinette Sica Battaglia. She was a graduate of Geneseo High School Class of 1956. Most baby boomers will remember Mary working at Dwyer's Cigar and Newspaper stand on the corner of Main and Center Street to the Generation X crowd, Dwyer's was all about candy and comic books. Mary loved Geneseo and her favorite activity was people watching. She truly enjoyed seeing who would pass by on Main Street and respond to the townsfolk and students that waved and smiled through the big window. In later years, people from all over would remember her from being a cashier at Wegmans (both at the old, tiny store to the new one in the plaza). Mary had an eye for detail and could spot an expired coupon from a mile away. For anybody that she may have intimidated, please rest assured it was just her wanting to do her very best at her job and honor the rules. A lot of people never knew this about her, but for as bold and sassy she could be, deep down she was a shy person. She enjoyed family (she and her sisters would be at Tom Wahl's or Vital Park enjoying hearing live bands playing big band music), loved finding out the latest town news, working puzzles with her sisters on the card table and vegetable gardening in the backyard. Also, she had a soft spot for animals (from her big boxer dog, Kippy, to any cat that she met). She loved children and was often engaging in playing a round of checkers or cards with her neighbor's grandkids. Anyone visiting the house, were sure to find candy, cookies and soda stocked in the kitchen for snack. Mary liked being an aunt and was even more happy to be a great aunt, she will be missed. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Church in Geneseo.
