Obituary of Alice I. LaGrou

Alice Irene LaGrou (Papapanu), 76, of Geneseo, entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Diana LaGrou, in Henrietta, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, John LaGrou on December 26, 2010. She is survived by her children, Stephen LaGrou of Geneseo, Diana LaGrou of Henrietta, Thomas (Lynn) LaGrou of Geneseo, grandchildren, Jenell (CJ) Kosmicki, Jaime DiLella, Jesse DiLella, Allyson LaGrou, Samantha, Ryan and Sean LaGrou, great grandchildren Rowan and Riley Kosmicki, brothers, James Papapanu of Syracuse and Michael (Janice) Papapanu of Penfield, sisters, Mary Pantas and Nancy Papapanu (Bruce Winters) of Webster; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Alice was born in Rochester, New York, on September 27, 1937, to Steven and Christina Papapanu of Webster, NY, who owned and operated the Webster Candy Kitchen for over 60 years until 1973. After graduating from Webster High School in 1955, Alice attended SUNY Geneseo and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. A long-time resident of Geneseo, together with her late husband, John, she owned and operated Long Point Amusement Park on Conesus Lake until their retirement in 1990. Alice was a talented artist, interior decorator and an avid gardener. She was a member of both the Geneseo and Conesus Lake Garden Clubs. She was a parishioner of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester. Friends may call Thursday 4-8 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 962 East Avenue in Rochester, immediately followed by a Mercy Meal after which Alice will be laid to rest at the Webster Rural Cemetery.
