Paul was a kind soul. I was a manager then for football as my dad coached , I always liked him as my father did also. Kind, always smiling and never angered or malicious. A great soul whose light will shine long into eternity. RIP old friend.

I hardly know what to say. This is truly sad news. Though I had not seen him in many years, Paul was a big part of my years in Geneseo, whether sitting at the Big Tree bar watching the best bartender I've ever seen and marveling at his incomparable charm, or hanging out at Jeff's house. The world has lost one of the good ones. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

To Sally, Terry, Calvin and family- My heart felt sorrow condolences to you I feel your hurt. This was for me an OMG noooooo moment for me when I heard of his falling asleep. Paul was a very special friend I have so many special memories of him, not only in Geneseo, but when we traveled around the country together. I shed tears as I write this. Paul had a way of making everyone he came in contact with feel like they were his best friend. He was always interested in everyone. I wish I could have made it up to Geneseo to attend his memorial, but it just was not available for me. I will truly miss him! Coming to Geneseo will never be the same for me. Rest in Peace Paul, hope the Mount Saint Helens Volcano dust went with you. May God's Peace be with you Sally and the whole family. God bless, Rick Schiano

Paul was one of the most gentle souls I've ever met. I cherish the memories of going to Tower of Power, Maceo Parker, Chakka Kahn with him and Mary. After her unfortunate passing, it was beautiful to see that Paul had found someone else in Sally to share his love of life and music. I would take my son, a former graduate of SUNY Geneseo to the Big Tree just to be able to see Paul. I know Paul lived life to the fullest and if it's any consolation, he was loved by many.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Nelson. He was such a warm and kind human being. Later as he became a neighbor on Haley, we'd get to catch up on one of the many walks with his dog. He took care of us many nights and during events at the Big Tree. I wish I had stopped down one last time. At a time when we could use more warmth in the world, we lose one of the best examples of it. Rest in peace, Paulie. Gone way too soon.

My condolences to his many friends and family. I shall miss Paulie's cheerful smile. I recall having a few drinks at the Uptown Lounge and Paul was playing some funky jazz, I asked him what he was playing and he said it was Karl Denson's Tiny Universe. I went and got that CD, I liked the music! In Paulie's memory I will share a link to one of the tunes on that album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwPgBD6wCI

Paul, was one of the nicest people I've ever met. For all his family and friends, please accept my deepest sympathies.
I met Paulie in 1981he was a fellow employee at the Big Tree Inn. He always had a big sweet smile on his face and a giggle when saying hello. He was a good human being. My husband, Michael worked with Paulie for years and knew him as a friend. Michael predeceased him by 14 years but if Mike was still here he'd raise a glass to you Paulie. When Mike and I were married in the Parlor room at the BTI, we specifically asked that Paulie handle the bar for us. We wanted him to be part of the celebattion. I can still see your smiling face shining across the table. You were a light for all. I am so sorry for your passing. Godspeed to all that loved him.

It is with my deepest sympathy that I realize of Paul's passing. I remember him greatly from the Big Tree Inn where he was the kindest, friendliest of people I ever met. Always greeted you with a smile and a warm welcome. My oldest son lives on the same street as Paul and many times when I was there I would see him walk by with his beloved Nigel. Oh, how his dog must miss him. It is just not fair when we lost one so young. May his family be comforted with the memories and love sent from family and friends near and far. Rest in Peace Paul. You were a true gentleman.

When I use to come to Geneseo to visit my Mom a stop at the Big Tree was always high on my itinerary to reminisce and catch up with Paul. He was a true gentleman and he earned the respect of many people in his life’s journey.
Thanks for being a lifelong friend and high school teammate, Paul. You will be deeply missed. RIP.
