Obituary of Mary R. Bernecker

Mary R. Bernecker, age 91, of York, died Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY. She was predeceased by her siblings, Anna (Louis) Pavoni, James Farruggia, Mary Ellen (Jim) Callahan, Carman (Loretta & Angie) Farruggia, Joseph (Peggy) Farruggia, Esther Farruggia, Charles (Carol) Farruggia Jr., Grace Farruggia and brother in laws, Harry Williams and Edward Bernecker.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Arthur Bernecker Jr. children, Art (Karen) Bernecker of Retsof, Michelle (Wayne) DuBiel of York, and known as “Non” by her grandchildren, Chelsey (Alex) Chiara and Cody DuBiel, sister in laws, Loretta Williams of OH, Eleanor Swanburg of Long Island, several nieces, nephews and many cherished friends and neighbors.

Mary was born August 29, 1932 in Retsof, NY the daughter of Charles and Michelina Arrigenna Farruggia Jr. She was the owner of her hairdressing business while being employed at General Foods in Avon. After marrying, Mary and Art owned Art’s Market, Softball Unlimited, and Art’s Vending in York, where they have lived their whole life in a community that they loved. Mary was a lifetime member of St. Lucy’s Church in Retsof. Mary’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially cooking Sunday Dinners with them, but above all, Mary cherished every second she spent with her grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Lucy’s Church in Retsof with Father Sylvester Bioh officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Geneseo.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. Lucy’s Church, 13 North St., Geneseo, NY 14454.
