Edith M. Matthews Obituary
Edith M. Matthews, age 94, of Geneseo, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home in Livonia, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Matthews, siblings, Ruth Trout, Jean Ruff and John Marsteller.
She is survived by her daughters, Joan Matthews of Rochester, Jean (Bruce) Bennett of Geneseo, Jane (Thomas) Towne of York, Jennifer Matthews Baker of Fairport, grandchildren, Shane (Ryan) Splitt, Meggan Bennett, Cory (Lizzette) Bennett, Brian (Melissa) Bennett, Zachary, Benjamin and Delaney Baker, great grandchildren, Porter, Mackenzie, Maddie, Max, Leyla, Harper, C.J. and Rosie, sister, Janice Felzenberg of MD, several nieces and nephews.
Edith was born January 8, 1932 in Stewartstown, PA the daughter of Harry and Mary Marsteller. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Edith was a teacher at Geneseo High School and retired from Mt. Morris Central School. She was a longtime member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Geneseo. Edith also served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Temple Hill Cemetery for many years.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11 AM at the Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Evan Wildhack officiating. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church, 31 Center St., Geneseo, NY 14454 or the Livingston County Hospice Fund, 2 Murray Hill Dr., Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
