Barbara A. Johnson, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away unexpectedly at her summer home on Conesus Lake, NY. She moved around much growing up and graduated from Frances Shimer Women's Academy before attending Michigan University. She later graduated from the University of South Florida and became a CPA. She was made partner at Canning, Wells, & Salzer, CPAs which merged with Ernst & Whinney, CPAs. She and another CPA formed Johnson & Slother, CPA's, which later became Johnson & Kreis, CPAs. She was known for her honesty, professionalism, work ethic, and care for her clients and staff.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Samuel G. Johnson, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, whom she married in the 1950s, at Christ Church St. Simons Island, GA. She became a life-long member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, FL. She served on its altar guild for decades. She was a member of the Dragon Club, Bucketeers, Bridge Club, and Junior League since the 1950s and was an Emeritus member. She was Chapter Vice President and later President of the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). She volunteered with the Christmas Toy Shop and served as its accountant for many years. After retiring, she continued to knit baby doll and baby Afghans for them. She was involved with The St. Petersburg Museum of History.
She loved spending time with family and friends, attending church, going to the orchestra, theatres, museums, parks, shopping, and out to eat. Her smile lights up the room and is the first thing people notice and comment on.
Survivors include her son, Samuel Johnson of Conesus, NY and daughter, Carrie Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL.
Memorial Services will be held in St. Petersburg, FL at a date and time to be announced. Interment will be in St. Thomas Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, FL.
