Marilyn E. Gross, 75 years old, formerly of Geneseo, passed away after a brief illness Friday, August 1, 2025, with her sons by her side at Rochester General Hospital. Marilyn was born July 5, 1950 in Freeport, New York, the daughter of Henry and Evelyn Uhse Herman. She graduated from Wellington C. Mepham High School in Bellmore, New York, and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo. While family was the most important part of her life, she was a dedicated educator. Marilyn worked for almost 40 years as a teacher, principal, and an administrator, beginning her career at York Central School District before spending the majority of her career at Genesee Valley BOCES. She dedicated much of her retirement volunteering at several hospices and animal shelters.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Evelyn Herman and her brother, Richard Herman. She was also predeceased by her partner of 9 years, Jim Flaitz. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Gross (Jessica Clemente), Brant Gross, and David Lennon; grandchildren, Nathan, Joshua, and Matthew Gross; brother, Robert (Janet) Herman; several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog and granddog. Marilyn's kindness and generosity will continue in the lives of her family and friends; as she often told her loved ones: "do something nice for someone every day and it will return to you tenfold."
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 4 – 6 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 4 Avon Rd. in Geneseo with Father Danial White officiating.
