Obituary of Allen J. Roggen

Allen J. Roggen, age 92, of Caledonia, died Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his brother Gordon (Melba) Roggen.

He is survived by his wife: Patricia Jones Roggen, 3 daughters, Gail (Rex) Milner of Caledonia, Barbara (Dan) Fravel of Castile, Alana (Dan) Scalia of Cape Coral, FL, 7 grandchildren, Julia (Chris) Derouen, Timothy (Tara) Donaghue, Patience (Doug) White, John (Courtney) Phelps, Tricia Scalia, Danielle Meyer and Katherine Scalia, 6 great grandchildren, Ethan and Joshua, Joseph and Braelynn, Lana and Tessa, his sister, Joyce (Richard) Neeley of Warsaw, nieces and nephews.

Allen was born November 7, 1932 in Warsaw, NY the son of Albert and Louise Bookmiller Roggen. Allen led an industrious and interesting life. His first job at 12 years old was delivering newspapers. He graduated from York Central School and started college at the University of Rochester at age 16. At age 20 he entered the US Army and did a tour of duty in Korea as a PFC Marksman. He married the love of his life, Patricia in 1953. They soon settled in Caledonia and started their family.

Allen had several jobs over the years including the water distillation laboratory at RIT, the laser laboratory at the U of R and he retired as a quality control engineer at Kodak working on the Hubble Telescope. He had many interests including realty, photography and flying and was a member of the Shriners, the VFW, the Mason's, Eastern Star, several flying clubs and the Civil Air Patrol, to name a few. He was actively involved in local politics and community affairs. Al and Pat took the girls on camping trips around the country, spent summers at 'the cottage' on Silver Lake and traveled to many countries together when they retired. His true passion was flying and teaching others to fly and he was the proud recipient of the Wilbur and Orville Wright award for 50 years flying without an accident
