Obituary of Frank Traylor Hicks

Frank Traylor Hicks, age 92, of Myrtle Beach, SC and Geneseo, NY died Wednesday, February 5, 2025 surrounded by family at his home in Myrtle Beach. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Beatrice Scott Hicks, twin brother, Fred Hicks, sisters, Forrest, Christine and BeeBee.

He is survived by his children, Scott (Cindy) Hicks of Geneseo, Allyson (Dave) Newbold and Tonyia (Jim Shantz) Sharp all of Myrtle Beach, 6 grandchildren, Derek (Amber) Hicks, Linsey (Corey) Sims, Logan (Brandon Coombs) Newbold, Dalton (Hannah Smith) Newbold, Traylor (Mae Quinn) Sharp and Sydney (Christian Atwood) Sharp, great grandchildren, Adrian Carey, Olivia Hicks, Bohannon and Lyla Sims, brothers, Sam Hicks of AL, John (Libby) Hicks of GA, sister in law, Anne (Edward) Wever of Stephentown, NY, brother in law, DeeDee Suggs of GA, many nieces and nephews.

Frank was born May 2, 1932 in New Orleans, LA the son of Samuel and Sarah Lilla Traylor Hicks. He was a graduate of Cullman High School in Cullman, Alabama. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Newport News as a Gunners Mate. Frank and Bea were married on July 2, 1955. He was a Graduate of Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY class of 1955. After graduation Frank was employed and became co-owner of Bates & Anderson Funeral Home in Hudson, NY. In 1968 Frank and Bea purchased the then Rector Funeral Chapel in Geneseo, changing the name to the now Rector-Hicks Funeral Home. Frank was the licensed manager for twenty years before his "retirement" to Pawleys Island, SC. Frank never gave up his New York State Funeral Directors License and he was also currently serving on the Board of Directors for Fingerlakes Crematory. Frank was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rochester Genesee Valley Funeral Directors Association in 2009. He was a longtime member of the Geneseo Kiwanis Club serving as President in 1973-74 and also a Hixson recipient, the highest award for a Kiwanian. Frank was a longtime member of Livingston Country Club in Geneseo where he was inducted into their Walk of Fame in 2019. He was also a member of Litchfield Country Club and River Club in Pawley's Island, SC.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 12 Noon at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 23 Main St. in Geneseo with Father Michael Laver officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Geneseo Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 71, Geneseo, NY 14454.
