Obituary of Leta Barber Clemons

Leta Barber Clemons, 86, a resident of Penfield Place Nursing Home, died there Monday, May 19, 2008. Mrs. Clemons had resided at Atria Penfield Assisted Living and had lived in Greigsville for many years prior to Atria Penfield. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Robert E. Clemons of Penfield, sons Gary(Gail) Clemons of Piffard, Gilbert(Marie) Clemons of Webster, and Thomas(Shirley) Clemons of Marion, grandchildren, Patrick, Joshua, Jonathan(Theresa), Lauren, Robert(Lisa), Brent(Suzanne), and Shawn, brother, Richard(Dorothy) Barber of Mt. Morris, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Myrtle Barber, her sisters Lorena and Helen, her brothers Lewis, Elmer, John, James and Lawrence, and her great granddaughter Jessica Gere. She was born October 4, 1921 in West Bloomfield, NY the daughter of Theodore and Myrtle Philipps Barber. Leta demonstrated a true will to live as she struggled through the many medical problems she endured the last 6 years of her life. May she now rest in eternal peace. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the wonderful staff at Atria Penfield Assisted Living. Leta lived there for the last 3 and 1/2 years of her life and during this time the entire staff fostered an atmosphere of caring, love and support for her and the entire family. We will all miss the many visits, family social occasions they arranged and seeing Leta moving through your halls at a very brisk pace with her walker. Your facility will always hold a special place in our hearts. A special thanks also to the staff at the Penfield Place Nursing Home and the Visiting Nurse Hospice Service for their care and family support given to Leta during her last days. You gave us the strength to get through this very emotional and sad time for our family by just knowing she was getting the Attention and care she needed. No prior calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Geneseo United Methodist Church with Rev. Douglas Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in York. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 2113 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY, 14624.
