Obituary of Charles M. Moore

Charles M. Moore, 95, of Lake St. in Scottsburg, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY. He is survived by 2 daughters Suzanne(Gerald) Murphy of Spencerport, Marilyn(Paul) Dantz of Groveland, grandchildren, Cynthia(Scott) Muller, Jeffrey(Amy Chick) Murphy and Melissa(Brad) Dantz-Zerbel, great grandchildren, Jerred(Joy) and Audrey Muller, Karlye Murphy and Corrinne Chick, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Balch Moore, his sister Lucille Hoffman, and his brothers Craig and Dennis Moore. He was born October 16, 1912 in Groveland, NY the son of J.C. and Lois Hendershott Moore. Charlie was a graduate of Groveland High School and a lifelong resident of the area. Growing up he worked on the family farm and for other local farmers. He owned and operated a trucking company for many years providing services to New York and surrounding states. Many deliveries were to Pennsylvania and rather than come back empty Charlie started a coal bussiness. Harry Gardner became his partner in Northside Iron and Metal Company, Inc., which closed in the mid 1970's. Several Town and County Highway Departments, as well as local farmers benefited from and depended on his skills as a diesel mechanic. In later years he enjoyed repairing small engines with his friend David Stocking. As a proud life member of the National Rifle Association, he worked with the Junior N.R.A. teaching and sharing his love of guns and hunting with the next generation. He attended many hunting trips to Canada, where he shot both moose and bear. He also hunted at Clear Lake and Twitchell Lake in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons in law, grandson and nephew until the age of 92. He also enjoyed reading and listening to the radio and was always anxious to voice his opinions on politics and current affairs. Visitation will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Saturday from 1-3 PM where Memorial Services will follow visitation at 3 PM with Rev. David Hotchkiss of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery in Scottsburg. Memorials may be made to Livingston County Hospice, 2 Murray Hill Dr., Mt.
