Anthony J. "Butts" Vitale, 87, of Center St. in Piffard, died Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the house he was born in, surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his wife Leah Wade Vitale, sons, Jim Vitale, Tony (Donna) Vitale, Mark (Erin) Vitale, and Paul Vitale, daughters, Patty Vitale and Terri (Joseph) Pukos, grandchildren, Necole (Mead) Hurley, Sebastian Vitale, Micheal (Michael) Christopherson, Kris Hanley, Ryan, Scott, Eric and Emily Pukos, Rorey and Levi Vitale, great grandchildren, Rachael and Siobhan Hurley, many nieces, nephews, fellow Kiwanians, friends and loving relatives. Special thanks to the Abbey of the Genesee community and to his caregivers John Saunders, Donna Vitale, Katie Krenzer and Patricia Wheeler.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers and sisters.

He was born February 22, 1922 in Piffard, NY the son of Antonio and Carmella Gemella Vitale. Butts was a member of the York-Leicester Kiwanis Club and a recipient of their Hixson Award. He and his late brothers Martin and Joseph Vitale owned and operated Vitale Brothers Contractors in Piffard.

Visitation will be held at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 4-7 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Lucy's Church in Retsof with Father Edward Dillon officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Geneseo.
